The Progression of Sin

Proverbs 1:10-19

Intro:  I Peter 5:8  We are commanded to be alert because there is an adversary that desires to destroy God’s crowning creation…mankind.  This War against God began with Satan’s Rebellion in Heaven.  God banished Lucifer from Heaven.  Then the battle spread to Earth, the crowning jewel of God’s Creation.  On Earth, Satan beguiled Eve and Tempted Adam to sin.  Satan’s tactics are not new!  He has been using the same tactic since the beginning of time, enticing man to sin!

I.  If sinners entice thee.(Prov. 1:10a)

A.  This is not a statement of possibility, this is a statement of fact.  Son, You will be enticed to sin

B.  Notice who will do the enticing:  Sinners, simply people who sin.

What is sin? There are several different words used synonymously for sin in Scripture

                        1.  Iniquity – perversity; willfully disregard the target

                        2.  Sin – habitual offense, miss the mark

3.  Transgression –to go contrary, to violate a command

Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and come short of the

      glory of God”

Truth:  We are all sinners!  Therefore, we can all be part of the problem!  This idea that vs. 10 is referring to BAD men is false!  It is simply one who sins.  These men present themselves as good people.  And the reality is they probably are nice people, but sin and Satan is in control…They will change as they yield control to their sin

            C.  Notice the word used for tempt: “entice”

Entice carries the idea of something that is desirable to the eye and to the intellect.

II.  Consent Thou Not! (Prov. 1:10b)

            A.  Consent :  “to ____________ after” also trans. “be willing”

B.  Discern that what they are trying to get you to do is SIN:

            Discernment takes ____________

            C.  Stop Listening

            D.  Don’t Agree with it! Don’t give it the time of day!

III.  The Progression of Sin (Prov. 1:11-14)

            A.  The _____________

            B.  The ___________ to befriend:  Come with us

            C.  The ___________:  Stay with us

D.  The ___________:  Work with us:  I John2:15,16:  Love not the World neither the things that are in the world…For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life...

Vs.13:  “We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil.”

            E.  The ____________:  Cast in thy lot; Partner with us.

IV.  The Warning:  My Son, Walk not thou in the way with them, refrain thy foot from their path (Prov.1:15-19)

            A.  Their feet run to evil

            B.  They make haste to shed blood

            C.  They wait for their own blood

            D.  They lurk privily for their own lives

E.  In General:  “So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.”

Concl: WAKE UP!  Smell the Coffee!  Don’t be naïve; you are being led astray by your own lusts!  Your destruction will come!  The strongest will devour everyone else.  And you, friend, who is being sucked into this scheme are not the strongest.  You will be bled dry.  You will be used and abused.  And if you come out on the other side, you will be a casualty of Satan’s War against God!  You will be out of the fight!  You will be in rehab, you will be licking your wounds because Satan destroyed God’s image and likeness!  Prov. 3:5, 6  Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
